🌿 Asplenium nidus – Care Guide

Commonly known as the Bird’s Nest Fern, Asplenium nidus is a lush, tropical houseplant loved for its broad, wavy-edged fronds that radiate from a central rosette. Unlike finely divided ferns, its bold, architectural leaves create a modern, sculptural statement. Native to rainforests, it thrives in warm, humid environments with indirect light—making it perfect for homes, bathrooms, and shaded patios.

☀️ Light Requirements

  • Prefers bright, indirect light

  • Tolerates medium to low light, but avoid direct sun (can burn fronds)

  • Ideal near east- or north-facing windows

💧 Watering

  • Keep soil evenly moist, not soggy

  • Water when the top inch of soil feels dry

  • Never pour water directly into the center rosette – it may rot

  • High humidity is key – mist regularly or use a pebble tray

🌱 Soil & Potting

  • Use rich, well-draining soil with good moisture retention

  • A mix of peat, coco coir, orchid bark, and perlite is ideal

  • Repot every 1–2 years to refresh soil and support root health

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Thrives in 18–28°C (65–82°F)

  • Avoid cold drafts and dry air (especially from ACs or heaters)

  • Humidity: 50–80% is ideal

🍃 Fertilizing

  • Feed once a month during the growing season with a diluted liquid fertilizer

  • Do not overfeed – fronds are sensitive to buildup

  • No fertilizing needed in winter

✂️ Pruning & Maintenance

  • Remove yellow or damaged fronds at the base

  • Keep leaves clean with a gentle wipe using a damp cloth

  • Avoid leaf polish or harsh cleaners

✅ Ideal For

  • Bathrooms, shaded corners, tropical displays, terrariums

  • Great for beginner plant parents

  • Combines well with calatheas, philodendrons, and peace lilies

⚠️ Pet Safety

  • Non-toxic to cats and dogs – pet friendly!
