Ravenala madagascariensis is commonly called traveller’s tree and will grow over time to 30-50’ tall. This plant accumulates water in its leaf bases has been used in emergencies for drinking. It features an unbranched trunk which is topped by a fan-shaped single plane of enormous, long-stalked, banana like, deep green leaves.
