🌿 Caladium ‘White Star’ Care Tips

Caladium ‘White Star’ is a striking, elegant variety known for its large, creamy white leaves with bold green margins and rosy-pink to red central veins. This variety shines in shaded garden beds or decorative pots, adding a refined and tropical feel to indoor and outdoor plant displays.

☀️ Light

  • Prefers bright, indirect light indoors or partial to full shade outdoors.

  • Avoid harsh direct sun, which can burn the white foliage or cause fading.

  • Gentle morning light is acceptable, but filtered shade is best.

💧 Watering

  • Keep soil consistently moist, but never soggy.

  • Water when the top 1–2 cm (½ inch) of soil begins to feel dry.

  • Use room-temperature water and avoid overhead watering to keep leaves clean.

🌱 Soil

  • Use a well-draining, organic-rich potting mix.

  • Ideal blend: peat moss or coco coir + perlite + compost.

  • Ensure proper drainage to prevent tuber rot.

💦 Humidity

  • Loves high humidity (60–80%).

  • Mist regularly or place near a humidifier indoors.

  • Dry air may cause browning edges or reduced vibrancy.

🌡️ Temperature

  • Thrives in warm temperatures: 20–30°C (68–86°F).

  • Very sensitive to cold—keep above 15°C (59°F).

  • Not frost-tolerant; store tubers in cooler climates during winter.

🍃 Fertilizer

  • Feed every 2–3 weeks with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer during the growing season (spring to early fall).

  • Avoid overfeeding, especially with high nitrogen, as it can dull leaf coloration.

🌿 Dormancy Care

  • Goes dormant in fall/winter.

  • Allow foliage to yellow and die back naturally.

  • Remove and store tubers in a cool, dry, dark place until spring.

  • Replant once temperatures rise and tubers sprout.

⭐ Styling Tip:

Perfect for monochrome gardens, tropical-themed containers, or pairing with darker foliage for contrast. Looks stunning in white ceramic pots or against black or terracotta backdrops.
