🌿 Dischidia ruscifolia (Million Hearts) Care Tips

Dischidia ruscifolia, commonly known as Million Hearts, is a charming trailing epiphyte with tiny, heart-shaped green leaves densely packed along slender stems. Its compact, cascading growth makes it ideal for hanging pots, kokedama, or wall-mounted planters, and it’s loved for its low maintenance and sweet, delicate look.

☀️ Light

  • Prefers bright, indirect light.

  • Can tolerate some gentle morning sun, especially outdoors in shade houses.

  • Avoid strong afternoon sun, which can scorch the small leaves.

💧 Watering

  • Water when the top 2–3 cm (1 inch) of the soil is dry.

  • Let water drain out completely—avoid letting the roots sit in soggy soil.

  • More drought-tolerant than overwatering-tolerant.

🌱 Soil

  • Requires well-draining, airy mix.

  • Ideal blend: orchid bark + coco coir + perlite, or succulent mix with added bark.

  • Epiphytic roots dislike dense or soggy media.

💦 Humidity

  • Prefers moderate to high humidity (50–70%).

  • Can adapt to normal indoor humidity, but appreciates occasional misting in dry environments.

  • Avoid prolonged leaf wetness in low airflow spaces.

🌡️ Temperature

  • Ideal range: 18–30°C (65–86°F).

  • Keep away from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C (59°F).

  • Not frost-tolerant—suitable for tropical and indoor conditions.

🍃 Fertilizer

  • Feed monthly during active growth with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer or orchid food.

  • Light feeding is enough—avoid buildup of fertilizer salts.

🌿 Pruning & Propagation

  • Prune to control shape or encourage bushiness.

  • Propagates easily from stem cuttings—root in water, moss, or well-draining soil.

  • Great for gifting as baby plants due to fast propagation.

🧺 Styling Tip:

Let it trail down from shelves, use in a hanging kokedama, or mount on wood or cork bark. Pairs beautifully with other trailing plants like string of hearts, hoya, or ferns.

Let Dischidia ruscifolia enhance your creations with lush greenery and soft, flowing beauty.

Pair it with these essentials
