🌿 Why Choose Pinguicula moranensis?
• Compact rosette form with dewy, insect-catching leaves
• Occasional purple-pink flowers add subtle charm
• Low-maintenance carnivorous plant for terrariums or windowsills
🪴 Pinguicula moranensis (Butterwort) – Care Tips
Pinguicula moranensis is a carnivorous plant known for its soft, sticky leaves that trap small insects, and its charming violet-pink flowers. Native to Mexico, it thrives in bright, humid conditions and is perfect for windowsills or terrariums.
☀️ Light Requirements
• Prefers bright, indirect sunlight
• Can tolerate some morning or late afternoon sun
• Avoid harsh midday sun which can scorch leaves
💧 Watering
• Use distilled, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water only
• Keep the soil slightly moist during active growth (spring–summer)
• In winter (dormant phase), reduce watering and let soil dry slightly between waterings
🌱 Soil & Potting
• Requires a well-draining, nutrient-poor mix
• Recommended mix: 2 parts peat moss or coco coir + 1 part perlite/sand
• Avoid regular potting soil—it’s too rich for carnivorous plants
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
• Thrives in 18–27°C (65–80°F)
• Tolerates average humidity but prefers 50–70%
• Protect from cold drafts and frost
🌼 Feeding
• Catches small insects like gnats and fruit flies on its own
• No need for fertilizer—do not feed with traditional plant food
• Can be placed outdoors occasionally to catch prey naturally
🌿 Growth Habit
• Produces succulent-like rosettes
• Enters a dormant phase in cooler months, forming smaller non-carnivorous leaves
• Resume normal watering when new growth appears
⚠️ Tips
• Do not mist directly—can wash off the sticky mucilage on the leaves
• Avoid touching the leaves too much, as it can damage the trapping surface
• Excellent for keeping fungus gnats in check near other houseplants
Let Pinguicula moranensis bring a touch of living intrigue and natural balance to your curated plant collection.
